Transport insurance is an essential tool for covering the risks during the transport of the goods.
For example, through different modes of transport such as sea or air. It offers peace of mind providing financial compensation in the event of a claim, helping to decrease the risks inherent in transporting goods over long distances and across diverse geographical zones.
"Ad valorem" insurance
When shipping your goods, we draw your attention to the importance of taking out "ad valorem" insurance.
Ad valorem insurance can be adapted to your needs and the nature of your goods, and has many advantages.
Tepmare acts as your agent, advising you, negotiating the best terms and conditions, and defending your interests in the event of damage (procedures, claims, file creation, expertise etc.).
« Ad valorem » insurance can cover your goods from door to door, whatever the mode of transport used: sea, air, land or river.
A single insurance certificate will be issued.
Bear in mind
It's a mistake to think that, in the event of a claim, your carrier's liability insurance will be enough to cover all your damages.
In fact, and only if the carrier's liability is incurred and proved, you will receive a lump-sum indemnity, the amount of which is set by international conventions and which most often corresponds to a sum less than the damage actually sustained.
Furthermore, if the carrier is not liable, you will not receive any compensation.
On the contrary, "ad valorem" insurance compensates you on the basis of the insurance you have chosen.
Example:
If you have insured your goods on a cost and freight basis + 10%, you will be compensated on the same basis.
Protection in the event of damage
In the event of a claim, it is often difficult and costly to find the party responsible for the damage in the entire transport chain. Out-of-court settlements are rare and often derisory. If your goods are "all risks" insured, you will be directly compensated for your damages.
General average protection
Often overlooked, general average can have serious financial consequences. General average occurs when, in order to escape a threatening danger, a captain is forced to sacrifice part of the cargo on board (e.g. fire, grounding, etc.). In this case, all those who have goods on board must contribute to expenses in proportion to the value saved.
"FAP SAUF" insurance
No special damage except in the following cases:
Damage to and loss of goods are at the Insurers' risk only if they result from one of the following major events:
shipwreck, grounding, collision, striking of the ship against a moving or floating body, water ingress, fall of the package during handling operations, derailment, overturning or breakage of the land vehicle, flood, tidal wave, eruption, cyclone, fire, explosion.
Insurers also reimburse general average contributions.
« All risks » insurance
This covers the above risks, plus damage and loss suffered by the goods during transport: storm, unstowage, wetness, soiling, bilge fog, breakage, handling damage, theft by break-in, falling overboard, etc.
Total or partial theft or shortages are covered by insurers if documents certifying non-delivery or break-in are issued.
Exclusions
What is not guaranteed unless special agreement : damage and loss resulting from inherent defects in the goods, the influence of temperature, non-accidental loss of weight (shrinkage), inappropriate packaging, exchange rate or market delays and losses, intentional or inexcusable fault on the part of the Insured or his beneficiaries, war, seizure, nuclear contamination, political piracy, riots and strikes (S.R.C.C.) are not covered.
Risques de guerre
Waterborne war risks are covered when the goods leave the loading dock and cease when they reach the unloading dock.
